June 21 - The Kiwis have performed a miracle in getting Gipsy Moth IV ready in time to continue with her global voyage. Due to the notoriously unreliable weather in the Tasman Sea at this time of year, the current plan is to ship Gipsy Moth IV as deck cargo to Sydney where a number of Royal engagements await her. June 17 - Organisers of the Volvo Ocean Race announce changes to the event format with the next race taking place in 2008-2009 and with port stopovers in Asia, the Middle East and the west coast of the United States under consideration. June 10 - Volvo Ocean Race - Brasil 1 (Torben Grael) won leg eight of the Volvo Ocean Race from Portsmouth, UK, to Rotterdam, Holland. In the lightest conditions experienced in the race so far, the finish was shortened and the top three teams of Brasil 1, ABN AMRO ONE and Ericsson reshuffled their positions constantly. June 5 -
Volvo Ocean Race - It's a tight yacht race out in the Irish Sea. Pirates of the Caribbean (Paul Cayard) is about two boat lengths away from Brunel (Matt Humphries), who is just nudging the ABN ARMO ONE (Mike Sanderson), while Brasil 1 (Torben Grael) is the new leader, from Ericsson Racing Team in second place, two miles behind.  The boats are expected to arrive into Rotterdam around June 7. June 1 - Clipper 05-06 Round the World Yacht Race - Due to the continued presence of Tropical Revolving Storm Aletta across the path of the boats, and uncertainties over its further development, a decision was made to finish Race 8 early. May 31 - Sebastien Josse, skipper of ABN AMRO TWO announces that he and his crew will continue in the 2005/6 Volvo Ocean Race. The crew’s participation in the race was thrown into doubt following the tragic death of their crewmate, Hans Horrevoets. After racing in Monday’s in port race and finishing a credible fourth place, the brave young team now intend to fight their way back onto the race podium with no doubt in their minds that this is what Hans would want.

May 29 - Volvo Ocean Race In-port Race, Portsmouth UK. ABN AMRO ONE wins fourth in-port victory out of six. May 29 - The WSSR Council ratifies Dee Caffari's GBR singlehanded non-stop Around the World Westabout sailing record for women on the 72ft monohull, Aviva from November 21, 005 to May 18, 2006. Elapsed time: 178 days 3 hours 5 minutes 34 seconds. This is the first record in this category.

May 28 - Volvo Ocean Race - Australian Chris Nicholson had to endure electric shocks to save movistar from sinking last time a major crisis hit his team. With the crew’s decision to abandon the yacht in the middle of the Atlantic after the latest problem, it ended a love-hate relationship for good. May 22 - Volvo Ocean Race - Off the English coast near Falmouth, the body of Hans Horrevoets was transferred to a Royal Netherlands Naval frigate from ABN AMRO TWO. Just prior to Hans Horrevoets being transferred off the boat, the crew of movistar also left ABN AMRO TWO and returned to shore in Falmouth. ABN AMRO finished the race in Portsmouth. May 22 - Volvo Ocean Race - ABN AMRO ONE skippered by Mike Sanderson won the race from New York to Portsmouth UK. Ericsson Racing Team with Britain’s Neal McDonald as skipper finished second and Paul Cayard skippered Pirates of the Caribbean into third place. May 21 - Volvo Ocean Race - The crew of the Spanish yacht, movistar (Bouwe Bekking) has abandoned the yacht and transferred the 10-man crew via life raft to ABN AMRO TWO (Sebastien Joss), which has been standing by since approximately 2200 GMT last night. May 20 - Volvo Ocean Race - At 1224 GMT, ABN AMRO ONE (Mike Sanderson) rounded the scoring gate at the Lizard, situated at the south western tip of the UK, collecting 3.5 points and she is now 56 miles to the east of the gate. Ericsson (Neal McDonald) still has 146 miles to run to the gate, with Pirates of the Caribbean (Paul Cayard) 14 miles behind her. It is still very windy in the English Channel. May 18 - A crew member aboard ABN AMRO TWO, one of the yachts competing in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-06, died earlier this morning after failing to regain consciousness after being swept overboard from the boat. The crew member has been named as Hans Horrevoets, 32, of The Netherlands. The young crew, who have sailed this boat so well, are devastated. May 15 - Volvo Ocean Race - Out on the race track, aside from the environmental issues involving declining fish stocks, the natural phenomenon of massive waves, or the very real issue of avoiding sleeping whales, which are in the minds of some of the crews, the teams are still sailing upwind and salivating over the prospect of some fast downwind sailing. May 11 - Adrian Flanagan reports on his arrival in Hawaii - being presented with leis, traditional flower garlands and a special lei of woven tea leaves for Barrabas, which was draped over her bow, as is the tradition. May 10 - Volvo Ocean Race - There will be only six yachts on the start line tomorrow. Spanish entry movistar, skippered by Bouwe Bekking (NED), suffered equipment damage on the previous leg and as New York is a pit-stop the team have had to take a two hour time penalty to allow shore crew onboard to fix the winch system.

May 10 - Volvo Ocean Race - Grant Wharington, owner and skipper of Brunel has been replaced by Matt Humphries as skipper for tomorrow’s transatlantic crossing to Portsmouth, citing ill health as the reason. Mark Bartlett, 20, will make up the void in the crew left by Wharington, who did not reveal the nature of the illness, but said he will return home to Australia immediately to seek a medical diagnosis of his condition. May 9 - Volvo Ocean Race 2005-06 - ABN AMRO ONE (Mike Sanderson) wins the race to New York, extending their overall lead. Paul Cayard steered The Black Pearl, over the finish line to claim second place and second overall, just half a point ahead of movistar (Bouwe Bekking) who finished fifth. May 8 - Volvo Ocean Race 2005-06 - As the first day of leg six wraps up, the teams have just 143 nautical miles to the finish in New York. Mike Sanderson on ABN AMRO ONE managed to sail up the coast without tacking, yet all the other yachts have taken short tacks out to the east while still hugging the coast. April 8 - Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to ever sail single-handed, non-stop around the world, has announced that he will be competing in the upcoming Velux 5 Oceans, a solo round the world yacht race that starts in Bilbao in October this year. - Dee Caffari on Aviva has cross her outbound track in her attempt to become the first woman to sail single handed non stop westabout round the world. Small observations such as the heading changes have made her feel excited about being close to the finish line. The other observation that she keeps noticing, which is a clear indication of being near the finish, is how empty the food cupboard is looking. - Clipper 05-06 Round the World Yacht Race - Ewan Hind and his crew on Victoria Clipper crossed the finishing line to win Race 7 on Friday, claiming their first victory and becoming the first boat to win a race into her home port. The crew on Westernaustralia.com finished fifth and on arrival were craving a hot drink more than a cold beer having had no stove for the past three weeks. The US Coastguard evacuated a crew member from Jersey Clipper on Thursday, 680 miles southeast of Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands. May 7 - A record number of spectator craft, estimated at 3,500 by the US Coastguard, lined Chesapeake Bay to farewell the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-06 fleet for the start of the sixth leg of the race from Annapolis to Portsmouth, England via a pit-stop in New York. May 6 - Gipsy Moth IV was aground for 6 days at the North West corner of the Rangiroa Atoll,
part of the Tuamotu Islands in French Ploynesia. She is now in Tahiti awaiting a surveyor's inspection and will be shipped to Auckland for repairs and is expected in Sydney on June 23. May 4 - Adrian Flanagan has suffered a serious blow to his Alpha Global Expedition. What was already set up as a swift supply drop in Hawaii has now become a race against time to lift out the mast and effect repairs. May 2 - Nick Moloney’s DVD Sea of Dreams is a documentary on his sailing adventures, particularly racing solo around the world in the Vendee Globe. Nick, from Victoria, set himself three goals - to sail around the world with stopovers with a crew (Whitbread Race), sailing around the world without stopping (winning the Jules Verne Trophy on the trimaran Orange), and sailing around the world solo. The DVD takes you behind the scenes of achieving these goals - his emotional struggle with breakages on board, extreme weather conditions and his father’s illness. May 1 - The start of the inport race in the Chesapeake Bay meant the official re-entry of Brunel in the Volvo Ocean Race. For the team, the sound of the gun ended a very hectic period in which the boat had to be modified, shipped and reassembled.
