July 5 - Treleaven's Travels - Andrea and Ian Treleaven were in Italy for the Australia verses Italy football match and will continue to follow it as it's entertaining just being in the town squares with the locals. June 26 - Treleavens’ Travels – Andrea and Ian Treleaven are back cruising the Mediterranean after launching their book ‘Letters from the Med’. They have been preparing their boat, a 47ft Beneateau yacht called Cadiz and plan to be on the island of Ponza in Italy for the Aussie-Italian World Cup game – more on that later. June 21 - Sail Indonesia - A fleet of over 100 yachts will leave Darwin for Kupang on July 22, the first stage of the Sail Asia Darwin-Bali-Langkawi Rally. June 14 - The world's first research measuring outboard engine emissions in fresh and salt water has found underwater pollutants could be cut by up to 1000 per cent by switching from two to four-stroke engines. Dr Richard Brown of Queensland University of Technology's School of Engineering Systems found that two-stroke engines produced up to 10 times more water pollution than four-stroke. If only our coast could have more marinas, we could have a much bigger boating industry, which is a fantastic lifestyle for people and great for tourism’.

Here’s a quick update on some of the marina developments on Australia’s East Coast.

d’Albora Marinas plans to expand its Nelson Bay marina, catering for larger vessels. Customers leasing berths at d’Albora Marinas Nelson Bay can also access free of charge the four d’Albora marinas in Sydney at Akuna Bay, Cabarita Point, Rushcutters Bay and The Spit as well as the one at Pier 35 in Melbourne. In Queensland Keppel Bay Marina is developing its shores with shops and apartments, Mooloolaba marina is selling new berths and Rivergate in Brisbane is open for business.

Peppers Blue on Blue Resort and Marina at Magnetic Island has freehold apartments with marina berths on a 25 year lease for sale. The marina is due for completion by approximately October 2007. A new marina with a residential village, floating berths and major refit facilities is planned for Bowen, just north of Airlie Beach. Work is set to begin in 2007.

June 8 - Frenchwoman Raphaela le Gouvello became the first person to windsurf across the Indian Ocean, landing on the French island of La Reunion after 60 days at sea on a specially designed 23-foot board. http://www.raphaela-legouvello.com/index_an.php

June 7 - Vanuatu Tourism has added a new section to its website specifically for cruising yachts following a dramatic increase in recent years in the number of Australian and international vessels visiting the country during the April to November South Pacific cruising season. June 6 - Letters from the Med by Andrea and Ian Treleaven is a written and photographic account of their three summers cruising around the Mediterranean on their 47ft Beneateau yacht. Andrea's letters are concise and informative, conjuring up the atmosphere of the European ports with their old cities, modern marinas, stylish shops, restaurants and the passing parade of scantily clad people. June 1 - Raphaëla le Gouvello has passed Rodrigue Island and is heading towards Reunion Island in her attempt to cross the Indian Ocean from Western Australia on a windsurfer. The Frenchwoman has previously crossed the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. http://www.raphaela-legouvello.com/index_an.php

May 31 - The Coral Coast Rally from Dunk to Dent had Social Instructions and although not compulsory it was strongly recommended that every boat partake in the festivities, including a home made or boat made bikini competition. May 30 - Australian Antarctic adventurer and round-the world yachtsman David Pryce has joined forces with polar adventurer Hannah McKeand to launch a programme of Southern Ocean sailing expeditions under the banner of Blizzard Expeditions. Their aim is to give ordinary Australians the opportunity to experience some of the most inaccessible and beautiful parts of the world first hand. May 16 - The Dent to Dunk Cruising Race & Rally for sailing yachts, multihulls and motor cruisers will be conducted from May 20 - 30. The Coral Coast nine day rally begins May 21 and the race and passage rally start May 27. This year the finish will be at Cardwell's Port Hinchinbrook due to Dunk Island resort being refurbished. http://www.apyc.yachting.org.au

April 9 - Australians Bernie and Yvonne Katchor continue their cruising adventures in Panama. On Soskantupu Island they buy more molas, take five hours to make spaghetti marinara and learn about the native Kuna's views on marriage.  http://www.boatingoz.com.au/articles/katchor/9panama.htm

April 8 - Beneteau will showcase five sail boats at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on May 18 – 21, including the Australian launch of the Cyclade 39, a cruising yacht and the Lagoon 380sll, a cruising catamaran. Lagoon has enjoyed success in the ARC race for cruising yachts. A Cyclade 43, Oceanis 423 and the racy First 40.7 will also be on display. http://www.sanctuarycoveboatshow.com.au

May 2 - If you are taking your boat up north to escape the winter you probably will have to pay extra insurance. Depending on the insurance company, this may be reduced if you have onboard a commercial skipper with Master Five and marine engineering qualifications. April 24 - Perini Navi announces the launch of the world's largest private sailing yacht. Maltese Falcon is an 88m (289ft) three-masted clipper that has three carbonfibre rotating masts. April 24 -
The Far Harbour 39, a 39-foot motorsailer designed for a cruising couple, will fit into a standard shipping container so the boat can be transported economically to cruising destinations around the world. The cost of shipping a container is a fraction of the cost of shipping a yacht of a similar size. The routes for shipping yachts are also limited to certain ports and the schedules are rigid, but containers can be shipped at any time, anywhere in the world.  http://www.containeryachts.com

April 17 - Kilo, a Silkline 510 catamaran, slipped anchor just after the Kings Cup at Kata Beach mid December, then drifted to The Andaman Islands, India and was held there for some months at ransom by the Indian navy for US$56,000U. April 11 - The Dent to Dunk Race and Coral Coast Rally are still on in May but the finish will be at Cardwell's Port Hinchinbrook. Cyclone Larry caused damage to Dunk Island, (the Beach Bar is gone) and the resort has closed for repairs and refurbishment until sometime in June. April 10 - The new $150 million Rivergate Marina & Shipyard is set to become a stopover for game fishermen, heading to the Cairns fishing grounds, or yachts, cruising to the Whitsundays. Located adjacent to the Gateway Bridge, it is fifteen minutes from the CBD, ten minutes from Brisbane Airport and six nautical miles from Moreton Bay. April 2 - T
he Catana 47 Ocean Class won both first and second place in the 2005 ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers). The luxury performance sailing catamaran will be launched in Australia at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. Phillipe Peche, crew member on Orange II the holder of the 2005 Jules Verne Trophy for sailing around the world, will be part of the Blue Yachting team on the Catana stand at the show.
