June 30 - Team Gatorz contested the third and final qualifying round of the National Bream Classic Tournament on the Gold Coast – Queensland, where team members, Matthew Taylor and Mick Passau, managed to make it through to the Grand Final which will be held in conjunction with the Sydney International Boat Show. June 25 - A new Travelling Fishing Show tank has a genuine Savage boat attached to the top which acts as the fishing platform, a Mercury 60hp Four Stroke engine fitted to the boat for effect and real fish inhabit the tank for authentic demonstrations. The purpose built 45ft(13.7m) fishing tank features glass sides so spectators can easily view and learn fishing techniques from professional presenters. June 21 - Cairns Fishing Report - The river and estuary fishing is good after one of the biggest “wet” seasons for years. June 21 - Following several years of sponsorship difficulties for the Geraldton & Districts Offshore Fishing Club, Halco Tackle stepped up to the plate as naming rights sponsor for the 2006 Abrolhos Islands Game Fishing tournament. While the marlin fishing was very quiet this year, the light tackle fishing was spectacular, producing a classic shootout amongst the top light tackle teams. June 8 - A Yamaha WaveRunner competed in the popular offshore fishing tournament at the recent Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Expo. Drawing attention from all over the expo, the Yamaha WaveRunner was enlisted to help build a bridge between the PWC community and those in the fishing fraternity with previous negative PWC experience. June 7 - Karee Marine Gold Coast BREAM Challenge - 678 bream were weighed over the weekend for the first of the Queensland BREAM Qualifying events. With the lead changing several times during the final day, it was Michael Geary that eventually took home the major prize cheque of $2750. May 23 - Weipa Fishing Report - A huge list of species landed shows the fantastic diversity of species available in the local rivers and Gulf. May 5 - Weipa Fishing Report - For the first week, the inshore waters were still dirty from the swell generated by cyclone Monica so most of the fishing was river based. Week two saw some great barra landed, the largest 96cm, but there were a couple more in the 90’s and fish lost that were over the magic metre! April 22 - Cairns Fishing Report - Have you ever tried to fish in tomato soup? Well this is what it has been like recently after all the rain. April 22 - Weipa Fishing Report - The 2006 season started very well with both the estuaries and offshore firing up to produce some great fishing. A highlight was the landing of three big black jewfish all over one metre in length, the best measuring an impressive 127cm (20 kilos plus). April 12 - Records rolled and the weather howled as Tasmania announced itself as the new must-visit breaming destination at the inaugural Tasmanian BREAM event, the Four Seasons Tasmania BREAM Challenge. Setting the standard from the outset and claiming the number one boaters prize was Brisbanite Steve Morgan, who compiled a 10/10, 11.95kg limit to secure his first BREAM event win, and rewrite the record books with the largest ten fish bag ever weighed in. April 10 - SA Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol Fishing Competition will be held on Easter Saturday at Point Victoria, 190km by road from Adelaide. http://coastalpatrol.yorke.net.au/

April 10 - Construction has started on a new fish handling facility at Mackay Marina Village which is set to attract more commercial fishing dollars to the Mackay region. The total gross value of Australian fisheries production is now $2.3 billion (Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics). Mar 31 - Three fishermen off the New South Wales south coast have proven that the size of your rig doesn’t necessarily equate to the size of your fish, having landed a 136kg Black Marlin in their Yamaha F60C four-stroke powered TABS aluminium boat. Feb 13 - Toyota Interclub Tournament will be held on February 25, 26 and March 4, 5 at Port Stephens, NSW. The event has 1000+ participants and over 200 game fishing boats. Fishing demonstrations will be conducted in a fish tank on February 25 - 27. Junior Angling Fishing Clinic will be held on February 26 and Ladies' Day is February 28. Jan 30 - The charterer of a Clipper 34 on the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria in December experienced some problems with the battery holding power and gale force winds but the kids didn't care less. The family had an enjoyable seven days cruising even with the blustery conditions over 3 days. Jan 29 - Jess Sams Game Fishing Tournament on February 3 - 6 is the 68th anniversary of the late Jess Sam's Australian record 330lb striped Marlin caught off Ulladulla, NSW during the 1938 nationwide fishing contest. Website: http://www.ulladulla.info/summergames/jesssams.html

Jan 23 - A tiger shark caught at 'Hells Gate' off Cairns during last years Marlin Season set a new Junior World Record. It was caught by Graham Johnston's son off Graham's vessel Sharaki. The shark weighed a massive 1180lbs and is a new world record claim on an 80lb line by a Junior. The jaws were taken and are on display at the 'Cock and Bull' restaurant in Cairns. Jan 23 - The Whitsunday's has been fishing very average for the past months. The sharks are in the breeding period and are taking most fish hooked at the reef. The water temp is still over 29 degrees. This has had the effect of sending the fish deeper to the cooler water which gives the sharks more time to get them on the way up. The surface fishing has also been slow with the occasional sailfish showing up and Spanish mackerel at Edward Rocks. Ken Bryant, Marlin Blue.

Jan 17 - The Wessel Islands lie in a SW to NE line from north-east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory for 60nm into the Arafura Sea. Week-long boating safaris in this area are conducted by Top End Expeditions, a pioneer fishing and cruising operator based out of the bauxite township of Nhulunbuy on the Gove Peninsula. Up to 6 guests live aboard the mother-ship “MV Auriga Bay II” and there are two custom designed 7m, high-speed game-fishing boats. Jan 10 - Jess Sams Game Fishing Tournament, Ulladulla Sport & Game Fish Club, February  3 - 6. The late Jess Sam's Australian record 330lb striped Marlin was caught off Ulladulla during a nationwide fishing contest that began on January 1, 1938 and continued until late April, as part of Australia’s 150th anniversary celebrations. She was competing against 580 Australian anglers plus overseas anglers.
