June 26 - A new niche inbound tourism market is emerging in Australia with tourists from the UK, Europe, South Africa and Canada combining their Australian holiday with a maritime training course. The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has recently started to offer its internationally recognised and acclaimed courses through selected training centres in Australia. June 25 - The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) launches its Australian training operations at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia on Thursday July 13. The launch of the not-for-profit organization, which is the world’s largest and oldest marine training organization, will be attended by HRH The Princess Royal (Princess Anne), who is the president of the RYA. June 22 - Sea Safety and Survival Revalidation made easier -
Sailors that have completed more than 2,500 offshore nautical miles over the last 5 years will be able to complete and sign a declaration to that effect, listing any races or passages that go to make up the miles sailed. Those in a position to sign such a declaration will be entitled to enrol on the shorter, update course (1 day) if they wish, rather than repeat the whole SSSC (2 days). June 12 - Join the crew on Kioni, a Beneteau 47.7, racing north. On July 29 Kioni will compete in the 914nm race from Sydney to Mackay before competing in Airlie Beach Race Week (August 10-17)and Hahn Premium Race Week at Hamilton Island (August 18-26). Positions on the cruise back to Sydney are also available. Familiarisation and training days will be held in June and July. May 16 - The TAFE NSW Open Training & Education Network (OTEN) is offering the Yachting Australia Sea Safety Survival Certificate to people wishing to revalidate their qualification. The cost of the course is $110 and special rates are available to sailing schools. OTEN is conducting sea survival sessions at the Qantas Jet Base on the following Saturdays: June 17, August 19, September 16, November 4 and 18, and December 2. May 2 - Sunsail offers sailing enthusiasts an opportunity to learn racing skills while competing in the 2006 Hahn Premium Race Week on Hamilton Island from August 19-26. Experience the thrill of regatta racing, but also learn race tactics, course planning, sail trimming, race start sequences, racing rules, spinnaker hoisting and retrieving plus more. May 1 - Southern Cross Yachting will promote the first Australian RYA training courses on catamarans at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on May 18 – 21. The liveaboard courses on board a luxury Fountaine Pajot 43 can be completed over weekends or five days with a maximum of five students and include all meals. April 3 - Sail from Hervey Bay to Hamilton Island - Due to a late cancellation Sunsail have 3 spots remaining on their April MileCatchers Voyage between Hervey Bay and Hamilton Island, departing April 14. Mar 15 - OTEN's Celestial Navigation course is delivered by correspondence. The course teaches the art of plotting your position by observation of the moon, sun and stars. It's designed to be studied in small chunks over 12 months, but can be finished sooner. Cost of the course is $180.
